Regulation

The California Department of Corrections (CDC) operates this program
for low-risk women inmates placed in community residential facilities where
they are allowed to live with their pre-school age children. State regulations consider children
residing with prisoner mothers to be potentially eligible to for CalWORKs,
Medi-Cal, and Food Stamps. |
Eligibility
|
Prisoner mothers are not entitled to benefits as they are considered
“inmates” and the CDC meets their needs.
Children residing with prisoner mothers are potentially eligible for
CalWORKs and Medi-cal and may also be eligible to Food Stamps as a separate
household. |
Treatment of Income/
Resources
|
Income and/or resources of prisoner mothers are treated under excluded
person regulations. Since prisoner
mother must pay facility for each child’s living expenses, there is no
in-kind income to child’s AU. |
Aid Payments
|
Prisoner mother is
payee on the case. |
